Great day out. Simona was an excellent captain and made us feel like friends rather than clients. Even if a bit windy, found great spots to go swimming and enjoy the beautiful water.

During the tour, you can enjoy snorkeling, relax in the sun, and, when included, disembark on the island of Tavolara. The slow and smooth navigation allows you to fully appreciate every landscape in complete tranquility.

Bays, Beaches and Islands of Tavolara and Molara

The tours include stops at some of the most iconic spots in the area: the Molara Natural Pools, the bay at the foot of Tavolara, Cala Girgolu, the Sassi Piatti, Capo Coda Cavallo, and the Spiaggia del Dottore, along with other stunning locations in the area.Depending on wind conditions, the skipper always selects the most sheltered coves. Each stop offers ever-changing, vibrant colors ranging from deep cobalt blue to emerald green.

Marine Life and Coastal Nature of Tavolara

The Marine Protected Area is home to an exceptionally rich environment: lush seagrass meadows, seabeds filled with colorful fish, and crystal-clear waters that support biodiversity. An unspoiled ecosystem that makes every stop even more fascinating.Discover more

Cliffs and Caves of Tavolara

The limestone mountain of Tavolara rises vertically from the sea, creating spectacular scenery — especially the famous south-eastern cliffs of the island. As you cruise along the coastline, you will encounter several sea caves, including the impressive Cave of Ulysses’ Ear, as well as small coves shaped by time. The sunlight reflecting on the white rock creates colors that shift beautifully throughout the day.

Snorkeling

The waters of the Marine Protected Area are perfect for snorkeling thanks to their exceptional clarity. The mixed seabeds of sand and rock are home to a variety of marine species. Snorkeling masks and flotation support equipment are available on board, allowing even beginners to enter the water with ease. Each swim reveals different shades of the Sardinian sea.

Tavolara Island

Some tours also include disembarkation on the island of Tavolara, where you can relax on Spalmatore Beach, swim in calm waters, or take a walk to experience the island’s nature and history. From every corner, the view of the limestone mountain is unique and the atmosphere remains peaceful.

How to Find Us

The pontoons where Sole Sale Sardinia tours depart are located in Porto San Paolo, at Marina Wave, directly facing the main island. From here, we set sail every day towards the islands of Tavolara, Molara, and the most beautiful coves in the area.Porto San Paolo is easily reachable from Olbia, San Teodoro, Budoni, and more generally from the north-east of Sardinia within a reasonable driving time.

Porto San Paolo is located along the SS 125, the scenic road that connects Olbia to San Teodoro and the entire eastern coast of Sardinia.

From Olbia: approximately 15–20 minutes by car heading south.

From San Teodoro: approximately 15–20 minutes heading north.

Near the boarding area, public parking is available (both free and paid), especially useful during the summer season.

Olbia is connected to Porto San Paolo by ARST bus lines 609 and 514, with a stop at the only roundabout in Porto San Paolo, just a few minutes’ walk from the boarding pontoons.

During the summer season, San Teodoro operates a seasonal shuttle service called the Beach Bus, in addition to ARST bus lines 609 and 514.

Tavolara Marine Protected Area: Essential Information for Boat Visitors

What It Is and Why It Is Protected

The Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo Marine Protected Area safeguards a remarkably rich marine environment that includes iconic places such as the Molara Natural Pools, Spiaggia del Dottore, and the bay of Capo Coda Cavallo. The protection of the seabed, posidonia seagrass, and coastline helps preserve a unique and highly sensitive ecosystem.

A Biodiversity-Rich Environment

The area is extremely diverse, featuring posidonia seagrass meadows, sandy seabeds, and rocky bottoms around the islands. This variety creates a vibrant ecosystem where it is easy to spot different species of fish, seabirds, and the typical Mediterranean coastal vegetation. For this reason, the Marine Protected Area is ideal for snorkeling and enjoying nature at a slow, relaxed pace.

How We Adapt Our Tavolara Boat Tours to the Protected Area

The choice of coves and stop points depends both on sea conditions and local regulations. On board, we aim to reduce the use of single-use plastics, making our excursions more environmentally sustainable. Each day, the skipper selects sheltered and regulation-compliant locations, ensuring safety, comfort, and respect for the environment.

Zones and Main Restrictions

The Marine Protected Area is divided into zones with different levels of protection. In some areas, such as the cliffs of Tavolara and the Cave of Ulysses’ Ear (also known as Grotta della Madonnina), anchoring is prohibited. In others, such as the islet of Molarotto and Punta Timone, access is not allowed.

Responsible Visiting Guidelines

Why Choose our Guided Tavolara Boat Tour

Visiting Tavolara and Molara independently may seem simple, but the Marine Protected Area has specific rules and restricted zones that significantly influence how you experience your day at sea.

With a guided tour, you can relax and enjoy the experience without concerns. The skipper knows the area, understands where it is safe to stop, and selects the best locations based on sea conditions and permitted zones. This means more relaxation, better swim stops, and a more complete day at sea — enjoyed the right way, without risks or unexpected issues.
